Granted, the initial candour of this post is not meant to deter you from your reading enjoyment. It’s sarcastic, witty, and fun, but it definitely encompasses my feelings and thoughts. I am again on the fence about who I should vote for for the 2008 US Presidential election, but that only comes as Barack Obama’s campaign released a new “Tax Cut Calculator” on his website that allows you to see how much money you will save under his economic policies.
Well, not to my surprise or anything, I input my yearly salary (which I will not mention here) and it came back with the following response almost immediately: “Under the Obama-Biden plan, you will probably receive no tax cuts.” Rewind. So what does that mean? Does that mean I’m about to lose my left arm and my first born child because he wants to cut taxes for the middle class?
I’m not trying to act like I’m in the upper echelon here, or be above anyone else, but honestly, if you’re about to begin the policies I’ve read in Karl Marx’s Socialism, by drastically redistributing wealth, I think you just lost my vote. I have no time, energy, or patience for a government who is going to take my own hard earned money and destroy me because someone else can’t afford to live. I’m sorry this post might sound rather distant, but honestly, as far as that goes, I don’t believe I should have to support someone who A) doesn’t have a job, B) has 10 kids, and C) lives on welfare programs. That is NOT what I want to do, intend to do, or will do.
Also, I’ve been hearing word that someone in the government is due to present legislation for African-American reparations. Alright, I’m from Canada, I know how reparations go. The victims of the Indian Residential School system deserved those reparations. They were tortured, brutally beaten, psychologically destroyed, and essentially eliminated by the Government of Canada and religious institutions, but I don’t think I should be required to pay MORE taxes because someone 200 years ago had their family enslaved by White British colonists. Here are my reasons:
- I’m not British, I’m French-Canadian. I came from France, once upon a midnight dreary.
- I don’t get money for the British invading and nearly destroying French culture in Canada.
- I have NO family member that was EVER associated with slavery in the entire HISTORY of my family tree. They were bankers from France and Sweden. We had no agricultural farms and I am literally, second generation. They JUST came here not too long ago.
- Your ancestors that were enslaved were enslaved so long ago that YOU don’t DESERVE kickbacks from when THEY were enslaved. Reason being, you WERE NEVER ENSLAVED. Therefore, you have no right to claim.

thatgirlblogs added these pithy words on Oct 20 08 at 4:26 pmI saved $500 on the tax calculator with Obama vs $300 with McCain… not that I think that calculator is a science.
I guess if taxes are your number one concern this election, it’s a valid post — but I look at the whole package of McCain-Palin and throw up in my mouth.
Just my 2 cents.
