As the United States takes one step forward into a progressive future, where anything is possible and the conditions of American households can and most likely will improve, we take two steps back from one of the most socially progressive states, California.

Putting a damper on this momentous occasion in United States election history, the Yes on 8 people have now completely and utterly destroyed any chances for same-sex marriages to exist in the State of California. Powered by the ultra-right wing Conservatives and religious zealots, the people of California were blinded and brainwashed by what the Yes on 8 campaign publicized in the media. 

My question has always been and will continue to remain the following: If same-sex marriages violate your “sanctity of marriage,” don’t you think you need to look at the status of your own marriage? For some reason, the Yes on 8 people precluded their commentaries with the following message: “If gays can get married, they will begin infiltrating our churches and bastardizing the minds of our children.”

Excuse me? Since when have gay people even been ALLOWED in your churches? Most churches scorn homosexuals in almost every way. The few select denominations that actually uphold what the Bible says and accepts all people despite their sins have been the ones that have prospered throughout any movement. 

I have been continuously playing with the thought that over zealous, religious dissidents aren’t even really Christians at all. If you can continue to beat down and berate others for their lifestyles or sins that they commit, you are not a Christian. Every Christian, according to the Word of God is to “accept the sinner but not the sin.” You continue to push people away because of THEIR sin instead of doing what your instruction manual tells you. You are not a Christian, you are a discriminatory bigot that does not even deserve to use the name of Christ to describe yourself.
